We made the long haul up to Minneapolis after the Ann Arbor gig. This city is a long way from nowhere and it always takes a bit of planning to schedule it in to a tour, but it’s always worth it. It’s an odd city, unlike any other that I know in the US, but very similar, only much bigger and wealthier, than some of the prairie towns on the other side of the border. And it is a great music town. We played the new Guthrie Theater tonight. The old Gutherie use to be one of our favourite venues so we were wondering how the new version would stack up. It turns out that it is quite the spectacular building: state-of-the-art on the technical side of things and no expense spared on the design. It’s located in an old industrial area, on the banks of the Mississippi, which is quickly becoming “the” neighborhood. A truly great addition to the Minneapolis landscape. One thing that remains the same in this city no matter the venue, is the audience. As I said, it is a great music town and the audiences here are always so tuned-in and a great pleasure to perform for. Tonight was no different. Unfortunately, we weren’t at our best. It was kind of an uneven show and we felt that we never really found the edge. Oh yeah, a quirky little aside…tonight was the off night for the play (Lost InYonkers) that is currently in residence at The Gutherie. So we played amongst the furnishings of the Kurnitz 1940’s living room. Kind of cool. |
