A very long day of nothingness…..We woke up in the parking lot of a Hampton Inn, located on some large, busy, suburban road, beside a strip-mall…nothingness. We took showers and got ourselves prepped for the day and then moved over to the parking lot of the Marquee Theater, located on some large, busy suburban road, close to nothing not even a strip mall…..nothingness, the worst of 20th century urban development.
The Marquee “Theater” fit right in to the theme of nothingness. It was promising from the outside, an impressive looking building. It looks like it was built to be a music venue. Dreams of a comfortable, intelligently laid out theater danced in our heads as we approached the venue. Inside we found a cavernous, dirty, cold, black space…..nothingness.
Adding to the nothingness was the Canadian and US men’s hockey teams. Nothing is the total number of wins that both teams managed in their respective quarter final games. Both teams were eliminated.
We tried to redeem the day through music…..but it was difficult. Once again we had a very good audience who gave us their entire support, but we never seemed to gather the momentum needed to pull it all together. I think we played well and there were some very nice moments, but the combination of the harshness of the room and stage and it being our eighth show in seven nights, were all too much for us on this night.
We hope to get back to this area in the near future and find a venue that would better serve our music and the audience.
