Mendocino, CA (April 30, 2008)

Yesterday we had a spectacular three and a half hour journey from Oakland to Mendocino. The last half of the drive was through the heart of wine country and redwood forests. Quite a treat. What awaited us at the end of our journey was the Heritage House, a luxuriously downbeat resort sitting on top of the cliffs of the Northern California coast…unfreakin-believably-beeyoutiful. What an amazing way to spend a day off, sitting and staring and listening to the ocean pounding against the cliffs, surrounded by the lush flora of Northern Cal, birdsong all around and that ocean air, man, breathing that air will cure whatever ails you.

I spent the night in front of the fire place in my room with my guitar and the porch doors swung wide open. The cool ocean air, the pounding of the surf, the crackling of the fire... sometimes life on the road can be a real chore and then there are times...

The gig tonight was here at the Heritage Inn. It is a case of truly playing for ones supper. The owners have come up with a very smart idea: they invite the appropriate artists to play at the Inn in return for a small fee and free lodgings. The gig was strictly acoustic with just me, Margo and Jeff performing in the Inn's lounge for a sold out audience of 90 people. A nice change of pace for us... but I kind of missed the band.
