Alexandria, VA and Easton, MD (Oct 25 - 27, 2007)

Two nights at the Birchmere. One of the better listening rooms in the country and a real pleasure to perform on its stage. We learnt from our mistakes in Norfolk and decided to take matters in to our own hands and not wait for the audience to decide whether they were in to it or not. We played very well both nights (especially the second) and we had no need to worry about the audience, they were great both nights. Two excellent shows. We had a lot of fun.

Another day on the red bricked sidewalks of “olde-towne-America-e”. Easton is a very quaint and beautiful little town, but I am always a little uneasy about any town that doesn’t have a used book store (words to live by). In any case, it’s a swell place to spend a lazy Saturday and the people here are certainly friendly. The Avalon Theater is much like the town: quaint, beautiful and little, and a pleasure to play. This was our second visit to Easton and much like the first time, we had an amazing audience. I don’t know what is in the water around here, but we have rarely encountered an audience as excited, attentive, boisterous and energetic as these good folks. This show had the potential of being pretty flat (our energy level after five shows in a row was very low), but the energy of the audience forced us to dig deep. We had a lot of fun

I think I’ve forgotten to mention that The Wood Brothers have been opening for us this past week. They are a great duo and well worth checking out if they come to your town. Their album on Blue Note is excellent as well.

Tonight we head north, 600 miles and we’ll hopefully be home by noon, if those weather demons that hide in the Pennsylvania hills cooperate.

It’s been a fun little run. See you in November.
