The three communities that hosted these first three shows are all a testament to the enormous economic powerhouse that is New York City. Without the wealth that radiates from the city, these towns would be little back country communities struggling to survive, but because of the cities proximity they have become some of the wealthiest communities on the East Coast. Tarrytown is beautifully set on the banks of the Hudson; Huntington is a picturesque little town at the foot of Long Island; and Amagansett, a not-so-quaint beach community, way up at the top of Long Island, is where some of the real money resides. The fact that Amagansett is two and a half hours from the city is irrelevant because, well, helicopters and private planes can make the trip in under thirty minutes. Despite the illness that lurks within, we had three very good shows. The first two were in small theaters and the audiences (especially in Tarrytown) were amazing. The third was at a small club, Stephen Talkhouse, in Amagansett. We played this club many years ago and have always wanted to return, but it isn’t exactly on the way to anywhere. So when we found ourselves trapped on Long Island over Thanksgiving weekend, we immediately thought of Amagansett…a lovely place to take in the Fall colours….and a fun, low key place to play some music. |
