A very odd couple of days spent wandering the countryside.
Today we arrived early at the Cumberland County Fairground in Millville New Jersey, the site of the first annual-something-or-other festival. The festival is being presented by WXPN out of Philadelphia, which is a very good station and has been a supporter of ours over the years…. This was just a very surreal day, spent in an enormous county fairground, with a couple of hundred people who seemed to be wandering around as aimlessly as we were. Ironically we had a great show, but very little response from the sun-stroked crowd…. apparently the Jersey shore is not a hot bed of Junkie support.

Day two of our cultural adventure. We spent today in Croton, New York or more precisely, in a large, very beautiful park on the outskirts of Croton, on the banks of the Hudson. This is the site of The Clearwater Festival, started over 30 years ago by Pete Seeger. It’s quite a scene; lots of families, lots of food, lots of quasi-protest….you got an issue, I’ll give you a tissue…or at least a booth at the Clearwater Festival where you can sell bumper stickers. I can’t escape the feeling that everything in our society has been co-opted and assigned to its proper box….including outrage and protest. I suppose that is what is so appealing about the internet, it is so difficult for the-powers-that-be to control …at least, for now.
A very large crowd at the start of the show tonight…not so big at the end of it. We didn’t take it personally.
