Ridgefield, CT (June 14, 2007)

Nothing should ever be planned for the day after New York City. The city has a way of sucking out all of one’s life forces. We were all running on empty today, but fortunately the gig today was in anti-New York, the perfect idyllic New England town which requires zero energy to engage and gave us all an opportunity to do a little battery recharging.

Ridgefield may only be 60 miles from NYC, but it might as well be on the other side of the solar system. Established 300 hundred years ago, this is uber-New England; beautiful rambling mansions with perfectly manicured lawns on oak lined leafy streets; a small little oasis for the dominant class; no racial tension in these streets and lots of flags….and, yes, I’m a little bit jealous.

They also have a very nice theater which is part of the community center or school board or something like that (did I mention that NYC sucked the life forces from my body?). Despite being bruised and bloody from our three days in NYC we had a very good show. The audience was also very good, a couple of whining, plaintive calls for Sweet Jane and we scared a few of them away during the extended wank-o-rama in the middle of Lay It Down, but those that were there for the journey were very enthusiastic and appreciative. This would be a great spot to return to on a regular basis.
