It took a heck of a lot of energy to get here but it was well worth it. After the show last night our bus dropped us off at the hotel in Boulder and then continued on, without us, in the direction of San Diego. We left the hotel this morning at 6am, drove an hour in a couple of vans to the Denver airport, flew in to Jackson Hole, boarded a couple of more vans and drove another ninety minutes to the Grand Targhee Resort, a small, funky, unpretentious ski resort just outside of Alta, nestled in the bosom of the Teton mountain range. A couple of hours later we took to the stage and played a ninety minute set, cut a little short by a thunder storm moving up the valley. We had a fun and surprisingly lively set, the audience was great, the people who worked the festival were excellent and the setting was stunning. Fortunately we didn’t have to leave until noon the next day and I took the opportunity to go for an early morning (I’m still running on east coast time) hike up the mountain side and watched as the sun crested the mountain and slowly moved across the valley below. Yes, the effort was worth it. Bill Frisell and his trio played a set right before us. It was amazing to listen to and, as a guitarist, just a little bit intimidating to follow. |
