Long Journey Home – Live In Liverpool, October 7, 2004 About midway through our 2004 Long Journey Home Tour we were approached by a company in the UK that wanted to produce a concert DVD for the band. At first we were a little skeptical (offers like this don't generally just drop in one's lap), but after further investigation we realized that this company was a going concern and were very serious about the project. Their proposal included a seven camera shoot, multi-track pro-tools recording, 5.1 sound mix and a whole host of other features that they wanted to include in the final production. We were eager to climb on board. Fortunately we had a tour of the UK already booked, so it all came down to picking an appropriate venue. The Liverpool Philharmonic Hall was chosen due to its excellent acoustics and sightlines. The day arrived and a very weary band and crew hauled themselves into the hall for their big close-up. We had been on the road for seven months at that point. We had long past the point of feeling tired and run-down. There comes a point in every tour where the sole focus of each day is simply preserving energy for those two hours on stage. You may be in Liverpool, but you don't even think about checking out The Cavern Club or searching for Penny Lane. But then again, at this point in a tour, the band has been honed to a fine edge. The on-stage musical communication between band members is positively telepathic. Regular communication, answering questions like, “how would you like that cooked?”, becomes extremely difficult, but reacting to a snare drum or a vocal prompt or a guitar riff becomes second nature and you tend not to be put off by any distractions like a camera whizzing by your head. You and your music become one. And so, it was in this state, that we took the stage in Liverpool. We poured our hearts out, drained the remaining fuel from our bodies and left it all on tape. For this show we made sure to perform a broad mix of material from our catalogue as well as a few well chosen covers. Long Journey Home captures an excellent performance of a band at its best. This is who we were; this is what we had transformed in to by the end of 2004. If you happen to have caught us on the Long Journey Home Tour then this will hopefully bring back a lot of good memories. If you missed us, then this is your chance to catch up. Also included in the package is a second disc that includes extensive interviews with Michael, Margo, Peter, Alan, Jeff Bird and Jaro Czerwinec. As well as a short documentary shot during the soundcheck for the show that includes an interview with Rob Howick, who has been traveling as a crew member with the band for fifteen years.Track listing
