David Houghton - 66 Days With Satan

"One measure of being Canadian is experiencing the country from coast to coast. Every Canadian I respect has done so, many of them more than once. Having travelled the country by plane, by bus and by car, I wanted to see the country in a way that would allow me to appreciate its immensity."

And so begins 66 Days With Satan, a bicycle trip spanning 7,500 kilometres. Along the way, David encounters drunken cowboys in Jeeps, a swarm of locusts, relentless headwinds, rabid dogs and homicidal truck drivers. But most importantly, he reawakens the simple childhood joy of riding a bike.

Here's what Michael Timmins has to say about 66 Days With Satan:

"I'll never forget our first cross-country tour. The vastness, beauty and relentlessness of the country struck me each and every day. David's tale of biking across the country made me long for that first journey . . . it also inspired me to grease up the old Raleigh and take a spin around my neighborhood."

David Houghton is known for his work as percussionist with Cowboy Junkies. He has toured with the group throughout North America and Europe and, in addition, has designed all of the groupšs CD covers since The Trinity Session. David has also performed and recorded with Jane Siberry, Melanie Doane, Daniel Lanois and dozens of other Canadian artists.

DRONEHEAD - Have You Ever Been Droned?

Have you ever been Droned?

"DRONEHEAD"; music for brain-wave elongation, modulation and relaxation is the culmination of forty six years of Jaroslaw Czerwinec's ( Chervinec ) work with the accordion, taking the instrument to places where it has never been taken before.

"Phaserdrone Symphonica 039" is a forty minute piece of music that transports you to a place of meditation, concentration and relaxation.

In September a solo performance by Jaroslaw was recorded live at Emanuelle Howard Park United church in Toronto, Canada with an additional track added in February, 2004.

"Welcome to the Drone Zone You will get Droned"

Jeff Bird - Jeff Bird

This is my first solo recording.

A fat and scrappy maniacal mix of original tunes with covers by Leonard Cohen and Randall Hylton with words by Dylan Thomas and others.

Sometimes described as "Industrial Folk" many of the pieces started as jams with myself and the fiery drummer Randall Coryell. Songs were written over top of these grooves often adding dense layers of sound. When I listen to this recording now, I sometimes think that this is what happens when you are left alone with a microphone and a tape recorder for too long.

Here's what the critics have to say:

"...beautifully, gracefully twisted . . . the recordings are infused with a kind of musical intelligence that transcends music itself..."
-Robert McLean, The Ontarion

"...reveals the gifted instrumentalist as an off the wall vocalist with a wild and woolly musical imagination. Uncompromisingly experimental, Jeff Bird offers musical musings for the adventurous and brave at heart."
-Robert Reid, The Record

Jeff Bird - Everything Is Coming Clear And Plain To My Understanding

My second album is perhaps a kinder gentler work. Again, a collection of originals and covers including some instrumental pieces. Included is the use of some spoken word and dreams as told by the dreamer. A very curious record.

The critics again:

"...sometimes eerie, sometimes dazzling, always fascinating . . ."
-Patrick Marsolais, Words and Music

"...a kind of densely textured musical dream scape, if you will is as diverse as the music, spanning 12th century mystic Hildegarde von Bingen and 20th century visionary Hank Williams."
-Robert Reid, The Record

"Every Thing is Coming Clear and Plain to My Understanding is a beautiful record."
-James Keast, Exclaim

Note! This recording features Mike Timmins debut as a guest artist on a recording.

Jeff Bird - Everything Is Coming Clear And Plain To My Understanding (VIDEO)

I have always been something of a guerilla photographer. No fuss, no muss, get-in and get-out style photography. I also have a fondness for slides, especially when they are cross fading from one to the next. For the release of my second album I decided to dive into my vast photo collection of more than 20 years of touring through all kinds of weather and topography, all over North America, Europe and Japan.

Artfully sequencing the images to the music of "Everything Is Coming Clear and Plain to My Understanding," the result is a lyrical dream like vision of the road poetic, mesmerizing and, often humorous.

From 14th-century Italy to psychotic dream sequences, something for the whole family...

Jeff Bird - Live At The Oasis Lounge

This is my accidental recording.

I like to bring together musicians that I have worked with but who have not played together before. It is always gratifying and always interesting sometimes frightening.

Case in point.

Pure joy and enthusiasm leap from this live recording of Witold Grabowiecki (piano), Randall Coryell (drums) and myself (on bass) playing together as a trio for the first time. It was at a jazz house gig that I have been part of for eight years now. For some reason I thought that I should record this night.

Good idea!!!

The Corndogs - Rabbit

I've known Greg Clarke and Brodie Lodge (collectively known as The Corndogs) for almost ten years now. I met them when they moved into the second floor of the house that I was living in and I got to know them after I saw them perform in the basement of a downtown Toronto bar.

Their music has in it all the stuff that makes rock music great. It rocks, it rolls, it stomps it swings, it's sweet and tender, it's mean and nasty, it howls like Ginsberg, it honks like Waylon, there is intelligence and irreverence and most of all passion. Think of Alex Chilton doing the Vulcan mind meld with Brian Wilson and having NRBQ play the soundtrack - that's The Corndogs and Rabbit is that.

Rabbit was made over a couple of days with no money. It is the sound of two guys on a creative high, blasting their souls on to tape. It is destined to be on no music journalists top ten list. You won't find it on a Tower Records listening post. You won't hear twelve year old girls humming any of its tunes while waiting for the bus. In other words it is a great album.

On it you'll hear songs about love, death, betrayal, spiritual awakening, beat poets, dancing bears, the road, drinking and, of course, space creatures. There are covers from as diverse sources as Paul Simon, The Minutemen and Steppenwolf. We, in turn, have covered one song (In The Long Run) and we used the song Ti-Jean as the basis for our song Miles From Our Home. In other words there is plenty for everyone.

We here at the corporate offices of Latent Recordings are proud to present Rabbit, the latest masterpiece from The Corndogs.
